Meet the maker
Winemaker Gary Irvin came to California’s Central Coast in 2006, learned farming, and spent eight years in the wine industry before creating Primitive Wines. His partner Stephanie Marin brings a career in film storytelling, small-business leadership, and financial planning. Together, they pair Gary’s instinctive winemaking with a belief that wine should feel personal, approachable, and connected to new memories.
Paso Robles and France’s Rhône Valley share a celebrated relationship with Rhône grapes—especially Grenache—but Paso is not an imitation. Warm days, cool nights, and varied calcareous soils let Rhône varieties ripen generously while retaining energy, creating a distinctly Central Coast expression alongside the estate’s Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec.
